# CURIOSITY CORNER: What is in a Bacon Bomb?

Ever heard of a "bacon bomb"? It might sound like a delicious breakfast item, but it's actually a weighted sampling tool made of brass or stainless steel designed for dead bottom/low-level water or contaminants sampling. The bacon bomb sampler is a go-to choice for our TIC Council-certified inspectors when collecting cargo tank dead bottom samples from the lowest point of a tank or container.
Why bottom samples, you ask? They can reveal a lot about the contents of the tank. While the bacon bomb sampler is one of the options, we also have other cool equipment like a zone sampler, a “Tulsa Thief” sampler, and a “Bottom Scrapper” sampler for R.O.B. / O.B.Q. samples.
